Here at All-In-One-Business.com we get thousands of emails each week. One of the most common questions we get is: "What product can I sell online and make a profit?"
In this article I want to answer that question by first looking at options you have in choosing products.
The first step in your online business is choosing a market niche. If you want free help with that, I have put together a resource here:

Once you have settled on a niche, you have several options on getting a product for your niche.
You can create the product yourself (or hire it done)
This is the path many people offering digital products use. They determine what their market is likely to purchase then have a product specifically created to fit that market niche.
If you can write well and quickly, if you are well-versed in the topic, writing your own eBook can be a great way to get a product put together. You will want to create it in a format like Microsoft Word, then make it into an Adobe Acrobat Reader (called "pdf") File to download from your site. While purchasing the program to change your MSWord document to a "pdf" runs over $200, Adobe online has a free service to create them for you:

If software is more your goal, then you can create it yourself or you can hire it done as well. Here are sources for freelance writers and software developers:

If your product is one you "invented," and you wish to make it yourself either go to your workshop and turn out the things or hire an existing manufacturer to put it together for you. To find manufacturers who can produce your products quickly and cheaply, search here:

This brings us to your next option on getting a product for your website.
You can offer products you purchase at wholesale and sell at retail
This works well if you can offer a product for 3-4 times it's wholesale price. It can be more risky-you often have to invest in inventory you cannot return-but the rewards can certainly be tremendous.
If you have picked your market niche properly, this will work for you.
But there is a lower risk way.
You can offer Drop-Shipped Products
As mentioned in step one, drop-shipped products are ones you offer for sale on your website, then after the sale is made the manufacturer ships them directly to the customer for you. You don't have to stock or store inventory.
To search for drop shipped products or manufacturers who you can purchase products from wholesale, visit the following links:

Finally, you can offer affiliate products
This model allows you to offer products simply by referring people to other websites. This works well if you have a great content site in mind for your market niche.
The two best resources I have found on offering affiliate products are:

In the next part of this series I will look at how to put up a site that will actually sell your visitors.
