Dracaena Medusa bushes
Most dracaenas are suitable for both outdoor and indoor conditions. But there is one that does best under indoor conditions but fails to tolerate outdoor conditions – the Dracaena medusa. Dracaena medusa is a variety of Dracaena Reflexa that is characterized by its foliage coloration which is darker green than most other dracaena plants. These thick and pointy leaves are growing alternately around the plant’s thick and woody stems forming dense clusters of narrow leaves. Under controlled conditions, Dracaena medusa can reach a height of 15 to 20 feet tall. But when left to grow on its own in a subtropical climate, it can grow as a tree reaching a height of over 30 feet.
As an upright multi-stemmed plant, Dracaena medusa is usually grown in stump or bush form. The self-branching stems of the plant allow it to form an almost oval shape that makes it a favorite plant by interioscapers. This unusual form of Dracaena medusa is not ideal for outdoor purposes. But the plant does well in protected landscapes, in malls, homes, inside buildings, and in formal landscape. In addition to its tolerance to medium light, the plant is also known for its drought tolerance. This particular characteristic of the plant, makes it suitable for non-irrigated landscapes.
